About me
The practical part of me likes to create utilitarian objects that people can use as part of their daily lives. My aesthetic sensibilities direct me to create work that is unique and feels comfortable and personal. Part of what makes a hard ceramic piece comfortable is how it feels against your lips or in your hands. For this reason, I often pick up a cup before it dries, leaving a slight depression and a resting place for your fingers. In this way, I feel like you and I are sharing a connection every time you drink from the cup.Whether I’m on a hike in the woods, visiting a museum, at a hardware store, or traveling in another country, I can become entranced by a pattern, design, or idea to use for my next ceramic piece. My work is varied and is continually changing as I explore and play with new ideas and techniques.I live in Portland, Oregon, and am a member of the Oregon Potters Association. I work out of my home studio and also attend workshops and classes where I can fire my work in gas and soda kilns.
